Why Do I Need an Oil Change?

No matter what Lincoln vehicle you drive, from the Lincoln MKC to the Lincoln Continental to the Lincoln Navigator, eventually you'll need an oil change. While most drivers know that oil changes are important, not as many know why they're so important. Here is a quick rundown of what oil does, and why it's so important to keep it fresh.

The engine in your Lincoln vehicle has many different moving parts, which all generate friction and heat as you drive along. If you didn't have any oil in your engine at all, it would quickly overheat and break down. That's not very conducive to driving, so that's where the oil comes in. Your engine oil lubricates all those parts, reducing friction, and carrying away the heat as well. This lets your engine run like... well, like a well-oiled machine. Unfortunately, your oil won't last forever. As time goes on, all that heat starts to break the oil down. If left alone for too long, the oil will start to perform less and less effectively. If it's really neglected, the oil can even start to form a thick black sludge, clogging up your engine.

Fortunately, changing your oil is a lot easier than changing your engine. In order to keep everything running smoothly, you should replace your oil roughly every 5,000 miles, or every six months, whichever comes first. You can change your oil yourself, or you can schedule an appointment at our service center and we'll take care of it for you. We'll help you keep your ride running its best.
